Has your Pom ever started running rapidly around a living room chair, low to the ground, tail straight out behind them and making tight turns - or dashed around part of your garden and flower beds like it's a Formula 1 circuit? If the answer is yes, then you are the lucky owner of a Pom who likes to berzerk.

What brings on this sudden and fun behaviour is a mystery and all Poms have their own unique way of doing it. Some Pom like to incorporate a water dish on their route, stand in it and furiously paddle, then run off only to come back to the dish and start paddling again.

Happeth Jones brilliantly described this wonderful Pom trait as a 'berzerker' and we can think of no better term to describe this unique quirk which encapsulates the Poms free spirit and sense of fun.

Berzerks can occur in very small areas - we have one who likes to berzerk on a 4' x 6' Flocatti rug, others prefer the whole garden and like to run in figure of 8 patterns of circles around a few bushed and flowerpots.

Please do not encourage bezerks in areas with obstacles such as coffee tables and table/chair legs that could be dangerous to your Pom.

This page features photos and videos we've taken of our Poms berzerking - look at the expression on their faces - does it look like fun or what? No wonder they do it!

Woody berzerk

"...he lowers his head, arches his back, puts his tail really low, and starts to run at top speed in circles. His tongue, hanging out the side of his mouth, flaps in the wind; his jaws spread open in a smile of ecstasy; his eyes shine in delight. Round and around he goes until he drops in happy exhaustion!
