Mr Darcy

Never far from my side, Mr Darcy is my number one lap dog - I adopted him when he was 5 1/2 years old, he has recently become a teenager and is now 13. During his show career with me, Mr Darcy was very successful in Veteran classes and Brace classes (with Leroy). He has won Best Veteran in Breed on numerous occasions at Open and Champ show level, including the Scottish Pom Show, Manchester Ch. Show and UK Toydog 2007. He also placed (2nd, 3rd ) in the Veteran class at Crufts when we took him there. Judges have frequently commented on his fabulous movement and outstanding showmanship - he is a true extrovert by nature!

Mr. Darcy has shown very sucessfully as a registered neuter. It is easy to register any dog as a neuter with the KC - there is a short form to fill in, you just need your vet to sign it and state when the surgery was performed. You do not need to give a reason for the operation. You no longer have to put "neut" after the dog's name when entering it at shows either. I always mention to judges that Mr. Darcy is a registered neuter when they examined him on the table.

Mr DarcyPrior to owning Mr. Darcy he sired Ir/ GB. Ch. Belliver Secret Affair - top Pom in Ireland and UK in 2001 - so he has certainly has contributed to the breed in that regard. Neuturing effects Pom's coats in that it changes the texture - however they no longer shed the same and always have an abundance of wooly hair. This is also the case with our female Fizz who is a registered neuter.

Mr Darcy's beautiful daughter Mouse 'Midnight Express to Toybox' also came to live with us last year - she is now 10 1/2 years old.

Mr Darcy - Toybox Mr Gollywog at Dunnichen 17/11/96 - 04/02/10

With great sadness in my heart I have to say yesterday afternoon I lost the most wonderful, charismatic little fellow anyone could have ever have known  …  Mr Darcy.

I was lucky enough to be able to adopt Mr. Darcy nearly 8 years ago and from the moment I saw him it was like true love, which is why I called him Mr Darcy. Over the years he has brought so many smiles and so much happiness – that it’s hard to comprehend that he is gone.

He was a registered neuter and only had 7 teeth to his name in the early days, but despite that, his exceptional movement and showmanship gave him a wonderful career in Veteran, the epitome being when he placed 3rd in a very large stakes class a couple of years ago under the famous dog-man, Frank Kane.

He was the poster boy for my campaign to the Kennel Club to extend Crufts' qualifications in Veteran classes to 1st, 2nd and 3rd as opposed to only first place and his photo with the caption ‘Not ready for the Zimmerframe yet’ won the heart of the likes of columnist Robert Killick who championed our crusade and wrote about his (and other Veterans) plight in Our Dogs. The KC approved the suggestion and since then a greater selection of Veterans have now been able to attend Crufts with their owners.

Mr Darcy was also a strong contender in Brace classes with Leroy and the pair knocked the socks off many judges and won several Braces – the highlight being their win under Judge Stuart Mallard at SKC in a well entered class comprising of Utility, Toy and Working dogs.

Mr Darcy turned to film-making in his twilight years and features in many of our You Tube movies – including the classic 'Mr Darcy dreams of Miss Sarie'.

He left his mark in the world through his beautiful progeny, one of his daughters is an Irish/UK Champion record holder and another one of his other lovely daughters Mouse now lives with us.

He will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends.

I feel blessed to have met my special little heart dog and to have had him in my life.
