Health IssuesIn 2004 the Kennel Club sent out questionnaires to review the overall health of all registered dogs. 141 forms were sent out for Pomeranian owners/breeders and disappointingly on 22 were returned (we never received one). The response rate was 15.6% and pertained to 126 live Pomeranians. Here is the link to the KC page with the results - go to the Toy Group were you will find the link to the Pomeranians The median age at death was surprisingly low at 9 years 8 months. The Pomeranian Club of Canada have some very good articles on Pomeranian specific health issues - Visit http://www.pcoc.net/breed-education.htm Below is a chart for emergency procedures prepared by the American Red Cross. Over the years we have successfully employed both CPR/Mouth to mouth and the Heimlich Manoevre in saving the life of two of our Poms. Ask your veterinarian about this information as they may well have additional advice to offer. |
